- Surf to Cinnabar from Pallet Town or Route 20.
- Search the Pokemon Mansion for the Secret Key that opens the gym, plus TM14 Blizzard and TM22 SolarBeam. Growlithe, Grimer and Ditto are wild inside, and the journals tell Mewtwo's origin story.
- At the Pokemon Lab, revive your fossil and the Old Amber into level 30 Pokemon. Three NPC trades live here too: Golduck for Rhydon, Growlithe for Dewgong, Kangaskhan for Muk. TM35 Metronome is here.
- Beat Blaine: Ninetales L48, Rapidash L50, Arcanine L54. Reward: Volcano Badge and TM38 Fire Blast. Water sweeps him.
