Beating Sabrina

This is the hardest gym in the game, because the type that should counter Psychic does not work. Ghost moves are 0x against Psychic in Gen 1 (a bug), and the Bug moves that would punish it are all terrible.

Step 1: Clear Silph Co. first

Saffron is occupied by Team Rocket until you finish Silph Co., and the free level 15 Lapras on 7F is worth having anyway.

Step 2: Do not look for a type counter - there is not one

Accept it. Her Abra line is physically frail: 15, 30 and 45 base Defense.

Step 3: Bring the biggest physical attacker you own

Snorlax, Tauros, Dodrio or Primeape. Body Slam and Hyper Beam do the job through raw numbers.

Step 4: Or out-speed her with your own Psychic

An Alakazam of your own (or a fast Kadabra) wins the mirror if it moves first.

Step 5: Mind the teleport tiles

The gym floor is a grid of teleport pads. Reward: Marsh Badge and TM46 Psywave.
