Beating Blaine

Blaine is a pure Fire gym, which by this point in the game you are thoroughly equipped for.

Step 1: Find the Secret Key first

The gym door is locked. The key is deep inside the Pokemon Mansion, along with TM14 Blizzard and TM22 SolarBeam.

Step 2: Answer the quiz doors

Each door asks a Pokemon trivia question. Answer correctly and you skip the trainer behind it.

Step 3: Lead a Water type

Blastoise (the Vermilion gift), the Silph Co. Lapras, or a Starmie. Surf and BubbleBeam are 2x on all three of his Pokemon.

Step 4: Rock works too

Rhyhorn or a Rock Slide user also hits Fire for 2x.

Step 5: Fight

Arcanine at L54 hits hardest - keep your Water lead healthy. Reward: Volcano Badge (+12.5% Special) and TM38 Fire Blast.
